Wir treffen Vicky Scheibelhofer, eine junge Frau, die sich ganz der Mode widmet. 2016 eröffnete sie ihre erste Boutique; seit wenigen Wochen befindet sich ihr Geschäft an der Zollergasse 43 im Siebensternviertel. Vicky ist verheiratet und hat einen 2-jährigen Bub, Lukas. Bei einem Glas Prosecco unterhalten wir uns über Höhen und Tiefen als Mutter und Geschäftsfrau.
Es war der schwarze Kater, der Deiner Modeboutique den Namen gegeben hat. Was bedeutet Dir der Kater?
Vicky: Jeder, der ein Haustier hat, kann verstehen, dass einem das Haustier alles bedeutet. Also: Mein Kater bedeutet mir alles, obwohl er zugegebenermaßen ein wenig zurückstecken muss, seitdem mein Bub auf der Welt ist.
Du hast einen 2-jährigen Buben, der mit einem Haustier aufwächst. Was bedeutet ein Tier für ein Kind? Was bedeutet der schwarze Kater Deinem Kind?
Vicky: Ich glaube, in den ersten Jahren ist ein Tier für ein Kind reines Spielzeug. Man kann gut am Schwanz ziehen, es verjagen, aber auch mal den Kopf im Fell ablegen und einfach nur kuscheln. Überraschenderweise wurde noch nicht gekratzt (lacht!). Wenn das Kind älter ist, wird es verstehen, dass man für ein Tier Verantwortung trägt und es ein Lebewesen ist, vor dem man Respekt haben und das man – wie die Menschen – stets gut behandeln soll. So ist zumindest der Plan, den ich Lukas mit auf dem Weg geben möchte.
Du hast Deine Modeboutique 2016 gegründet. Was hat Dich angetrieben, diesen Weg zu gehen? Was und wer hat Dir beim Start geholfen?
Vicky: Ich war schon immer sehr modeaffin und fragte mich oft, warum es eigentlich nicht viel mehr Alternativen zu den großen Modeketten gibt. In anderen Städten gibt es viel mehr kleine Boutiquen, die tragbare, modische und leistbare Mode führen. Und so wagte ich den Schritt. Geholfen haben mir mein innerer Wille und natürlich mein Mann, der voll und ganz hinter mir stand und steht. Es tut nach wie vor gut zu wissen, dass er jederzeit für mich da ist und ich ihn um Rat fragen kann … aber nicht um modischen (lacht!).
Inzwischen sind 3 Jahre vergangen. Was waren die größten Freuden, wann gab es Momente des Frusts? Was ist heute Deine größte Motivation?
Vicky: Die größte Freude ist nach wie vor das positive Feedback meiner Kundinnen. Ohne diesen gäbe es mich bzw. meine Boutique nicht. Somit freue ich mich immer, wenn es für sie ein schönes Shoppingerlebnis gab und sie zufrieden gehen – und im besten Fall dann auch wiederkommen. Momente des Frusts gab es zum Glück wenige. Allerdings: Als ich aus meinem „alten“ Laden in der Breite Gasse wegen Eigenbedarfs raus musste und nach fast 6 Monaten noch immer keine für mich passende Immobilie fand, war ich kurz davor, das Handtuch zu werfen.
Du hast Deinen neuen Laden in der Zollergasse 43 eröffnet. Was versprichst Du Dir am neuen Ort?
Vicky: Ich wollte schon immer ins sogenannte Siebensternviertel. Ich hoffe natürlich, dass mir meine Stammkundinnen in die Zollergasse folgen und ich ganz viele neue Kundinnen dazugewinnen kann.
Nun führst Du aber nicht nur eine kleine, feine Modeboutique – Du bist auch Mutter eines Sohns. Wie schaffst Du das? Wo wird‘s wirklich schwierig?
Vicky: Ganz ehrlich? Manchmal schafft man es einfach nicht. Wenn z.B. mein Bub krank und meine Mitarbeiterin auf Urlaub ist und auch der Mann nicht einspringen kann, dann ist der Laden halt mal für einen Tag geschlossen. Fand ich früher absolut unprofessionell – aber mit Kind ändert sich aber einfach ALLES, und auch die Prioritäten verschieben sich. Den Spagat schaffen kann man tatsächlich nur, wenn ein gutes Team hinter einem steht – seien es die Großeltern oder die Nanny – in meinem Fall sind es meine beiden Mitarbeiterinnen, auf die ich mich zu 100% verlassen kann und die spontan mal für mich einspringen.
Wer MOMpreneur sein will, braucht Kraft – keine Frage. Was machst Du, um unter Tag schnell einmal frische Energie zu tanken? Und was machst Du, um auch einmal so richtig abschalten zu können?
Vicky: Das klingt jetzt wahnsinnig kitschig, aber das Lachen meines Sohnes gibt mir unendlich viel Kraft. Auch wenn er mich manchmal in den Wahnsinn treibt (lacht!). Ansonsten powere ich mich gerne zumindest einmal pro Woche im Fitnessstudio aus, am Abend lasse ich mich gern von Trash-TV berieseln. Ehrlich, dafür schäme ich mich eh ein bissi… Und ein Glaserl Wein holt auch wieder die Energie zurück (lacht!).
Wie steht Dein Kind dazu, dass Du fast täglich im Geschäft bist? Redet Ihr darüber?
Vicky: Lukas ist seit Beginn an im Laden dabei. Als er noch ein Baby war, stand ich stundenweise mit ihm in der Trage im Laden, und wenn ich heute mal nicht arbeite, schaue ich doch fast täglich mit ihm vorbei. Es ist für ihn wie ein Indoor-Spielplatz und meistens hinterlassen wir es auch im Chaos… Er weiß, dass es mein Laden ist und die Mama hier arbeitet. Er war auch beim Umzug in die Zollergasse dabei und hat „mitgeholfen“, die Leiter zu halten, Schrauben herumzuwerfen, usw. In Wahrheit denkt er, dass eigentlich er der Chef ist (lacht!).
Sehr aktuell ist die Diskussion über die „Helikopter-Eltern“. Was ist Deine Meinung? Wie stark sollten Eltern ihre Kinder führen und vielleicht sogar antreiben? Wie wichtig ist es, dass Kinder in Freiheit aufwachsen?
Vicky: Ich muss zugeben, dass ich selbst wahrscheinlich eher zur „Helikopter-Mama“ tendiere. Das liegt vielleicht daran, dass Lukas 10 Wochen zu früh geboren wurde und aufgrund der Frühgeburt lange im Krankenhaus bleiben musste. Sowas prägt, und man setzt andere Prioritäten. Mittlerweile ist er fast 2 und ich muss, was das betrifft, ein wenig „gechillter“ werden. Mein Lieblingsspruch: „Hilf mir, es selbst zu tun“ von Maria Montessori. Freiheit und sich entfalten können finde ich grundsätzlich sehr wichtig, aber er muss auch Grenzen einhalten lernen. Wie bei allem finde ich auch hier: ein gesundes Mittelmaß.
Zurück zur Modeboutique: Mit welchen Farben gehen wir durch diesen Sommer? Was ist in, und was ist out?
Vicky: Es wird bunt: strahlendes Gelb, leuchtendes Orange und auffälliges Rot begleiten uns durch den Sommer. Man kommt auch nicht um Palmenprint umhin – mein Lieblingstrend schlechthin! Statement-Shirt sind sowieso ein Klassiker und findet man auch bei mir. Urlaubsfeeling verspricht Muschelschmuck. Cord darf diese Saison mal pausieren – kommt allerdings im Herbst wieder.
Und zum Schluss: Lieber Kaffee in der Früh oder ein gutes Glas Wein zum Apéro?
Vicky: Oh Gott, schwere Entscheidung… im Zweifelsfall entscheide ich mich lieber für den Alkohol (lacht!).

Today we meet Vicky Scheibelhofer, a young woman who has completely dedicated her life to fashion. She opened her first boutique in 2016 and now her store at Zollergasse 43 has also been open in the 7th district for some weeks. Vicky is married and has a 2-year-old boy, Lucas. Over a glass of prosecco, we chat about the ups and downs of being a mother in the business of fashion.
It was your beloved black cat that named your fashion boutique. Did it mean a lot to you?
Vicky: Anyone who owns a pet will understand, that they mean everything. So for me, my tomcat meant the world, even though I must admit, he has lost a bit of attention from my side since my boy was born.
You have a two-year-old boy who is growing up with a pet. What does an animal mean to a kid?
Vicky: I believe in the first few years, they see them just like a toy. You can pull its tail, chase it and cuddle with it. Surprisingly, there hasn’t been any scratching yet (laughs!). When the child grows older, he will need to understand that animals are a big responsibility and that they are living beings who demand attention, respect and just like humans, he will need to treat them properly. At least that is what I am planning to teach Lucas along the way.
You founded your fashion boutique in 2016. What drove you into this journey? Did you get help to get it started?
Vicky: I have always been passionate about fashion and often wondered why there aren’t more alternatives to big and well-known fashion brands. I had been to many other cities where small boutiques also worked and offered affordable fashion garments too, so I dared myself.
When I decided to take the step, my inner will helped a lot, however, my husband stood right by my side and still continues to do so. It is good to know that there is always someone there for me whom I can ask for advice on anything…except for fashion (laughs!)
It’s already been 3 years since you opened. What were the greatest joys and moments of frustration until now? What is your biggest motivation today?
Vicky: The greatest joy is getting positive feedback from my customers. Without them, none of it would be possible. So my biggest happiness is when I see clients having a nice shopping experience, leaving satisfied and in some cases even come back again.
Luckily, I have to say that I have not been through many moments of frustration until today. However, I must say that I was close to giving up when I had to leave the old location and find a new spot in town. I spent 6 months looking for the perfect location and this was hard for me.
You have opened your new shop at Zollergasse 43. What are your new plans and ideas with this change?
Vicky: I’ve always wanted to move to the so-called “7-Star District”. Of course, I hope that my regular customers will still visit me at the new shop and hopefully, I will win some new customers.
You are not only running the fashion boutique, but you are also a mother of a toddler. How do you cope with the two things? Has it been difficult for you?
Vicky: Honestly speaking, sometimes I just can’t make it. For example, if my kid is sick and my employee is on vacation and my husband is also busy, we close the shop. In the past, I found this to be completely unprofessional, but with a child, my priorities and everything else changed. I believe that the only way to really master the work-life balance is if you have a good team behind you. Call it grandparents, call it nanny. In my case, I have two employees whom I can rely on 100% and who are willing to step in for me if I need to.
Whoever wants to become a MOMpreneur needs strength – There is no question about it. What do you do to recharge your batteries throughout the day? And what are your tricks to be able to really switch off?
Vicky: It is going to sound extremely cheesy, but the laugh of my son gives me endless strength. Even if he drives me crazy sometimes (laughs!). Besides that, I like to exercise at least ones a week at the gym and in the evening I allow myself watching some trashy TV. And every now and then… a glass of wine will also bring some energy back (laughs again!)
How does your son feel about you being in the shop almost every day? Do you talk to him about it?
Vicky: Lukas has been in the store with me since the very beginning. When he was still a baby I stood with him for hours in the shop. Even when I am not working, like today, I still come by the shop with him. For Lukas, it is like an indoor playground and we also tend to leave huge chaos behind when he comes, but he knows it is mom’s shop and that I work there. He was also involved with the whole moving. He would hold the ladder, throw screws around and so on. Frankly, I think he believes he is some kind of boss…!!
The discussion about „Helicopter Parenting” is currently open. What is your opinion on it? How much do you think parents should lead and drive their children? How important do you think it is for children to have their own freedom?
Vicky: I have to admit, I see myself more like a “Helicopter Mom”. Maybe because Lukas was born at 10 weeks and had to spend a long time at the hospital due to its premature birth. I guess things like these make you shift your priorities. However, the fact is, he is almost 2 now and I need to learn to be a bit less stressed about it all. My favourite saying by Maria Montessori is “Help me to do it by myself”. I believe that freedom is very important, but he also needs to know about boundaries. In general, it is important to find a healthy balance in everything.
Back to your boutique now; what are the colours of this upcoming summer? What’s in these seasons?
Vicky: It definitely gets colourful: bright yellow, orange and striking red will stay with us this summer. You will not be able to get around the palm trees patterns either – My favourite current trend by far. Statement T-shirts are still on trend and you will find them in the shop too. The holiday feelings promise some shell-shaped jewellery, but cord will stay on pause for now, only until next autumn though.
Finally, would you rather go for a coffee in the morning or a good glass of wine in the afternoon?
Vicky: Oh wow, tough decision to make. But in any case… I stick to alcohol (laughs!).
