Ask The Team: Top spots to spend a summer night in Vienna

14. August 2018

Summer nights in Vienna are special. The sunlight lasts longer and people love going for an after-work drink, meeting friends and staying around the city at night. You hear people chatting, music sounds lightly on the background and the hot breeze hits everyone.

Throughout the years, I realized that everybody has a different favorite location where to spend most of their summer nights while in the city. Me for example, I love having a nice drink at “Zum Schwarzen Kameel” in the first district. The history of this place fascinates me – it has been open for over 400 years. Can you even believe that?  It was originally opened as a dairy-grocery store; however, the house has grown along with its reputation and is now an excellent place to visit at any time of the day. From morning till night, “Zum Schwarzem Kameel” offers everything from breakfasts to late night drinks. Excellent location and outstanding people, next to the terrace of my friends (Thank you David & Sabine!) and by far my favorite spot to spend a summer night in Vienna.

As Vienna offers a lot of outstanding spots to hang out on a hot summer night, I asked the mit Handkuss team about their favorite places in Vienna. So, grab something to note, here are some of the spots you should be heading to this summer.

Lilly told me that her favorite spot to spend the nights is by far her balcony. Tho’ if she was to leave her beloved balcony, she would certainly spend her nights at “Lamee Terrasse”.

However, I also know that she sometimes does head a little more outside the city if they are desperate for some rural landscapes and easy-going vibes. The Heuriger she likes going to is Wieninger am Nussberg – including an incredible terrace with breathtaking views over Vienna. Pssssssssssst: It is only reachable by foot!

Antonia is a fan of the Donaukanal! She loves “Tel Aviv Beach” and “Hermanns Strandbar” the most. The whole Donaukanal is for Antonia the place to be during the Viennese summer, she said. Good energy, beach style, nice drinks – It is here where she spends most of her summer evenings after work and weekends if she is not tanning in Italia.

Caro likes one of the most special places in town, also located on the Donaukanal, but this time literally IN the canal. She likes spending the warm nights on the terrace of Motto am Fluss”. An outstanding place and location on the water. Usually spiced up with some chill-out music played by a DJ on their terrace…! Another place she loves to go to (…I guess because it is close to the office!) is the Heuer am Karlsplatz”. Great location if your plan is to have a long night and head over to some cool dancing spots in town. Definitely, a must-go if you are coming over to Vienna for a weekend!

Lastly, Tati. Originally raised up by the Mediterranean Sea, she usually likes to trick her brain going to places that are close to the water or river, however, she did also tell me that one of her favourite after-work places when the nights get very warm in Vienna is the rooftop bar of the 25 Hours Hotel”. The best hour would be 8:30/9:00 she says since you can get some of the prettiest sunset shots from a rooftop in Vienna. Even though it gets quite packed, it is a great spot and its crazy circus style vibes are just too cool to miss out on.

Pssssssssssst: If you follow our journey here or on Instagram, you might be already aware that I (and my team) also love to head to the Grand Etage at Grand Ferdinand for a good glass of vino every now and then. This rooftop, however, is only for hotel guests or members… BUT here comes the good news: On Sunday it is opened for E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E! Did you know about this?

DEUTSCH
